Why are websites blocked sometimes? There could be several reasons that you can’t access blocked websites.

Tips and Tricks to Access Blocked Websites

  • Many countries, such as China, Iran, and Turkey, block access to popular sites by detecting the IP address location.
  • Also, some employers block distracting websites to combat the lack of productivity. Other business owners decide to block websites for security or legal reasons.
  • Generally, our schools, colleges, and offices will block a few websites we, as a result, cannot access online.

Governments became privy to and subsequently banned or blocked a few nefarious websites in many countries, like China and India, so its citizens can’t access them.

But, we all love to shop online, surf the web, or frankly, read what others are saying about our country.

We’re going to share a few methods to access blocked websites online (from any country) without violating any cyber laws. Many people might already know these steps, but I know that many people don’t know how to do it yet. Use these methods for useful purposes only.

So, here are 11 hacks and easy methods to access blocked websites:

Here are several methods to access blocked websites online with ease:

1. Use the IP address instead of the URL

Use the IP instead of the URL of the site. This method entirely depends on the software or application used. Sometimes the blocked sites are stored as per the list of URLs. For example: www.yahoo.com, www.facebook.com, www.abcd.com, etc. In such a case, using the IP instead of the URL might work. In a local computer, doing a ping domain.com command in the command prompt will return you the IP address. You can also find it online with a search on Whatsmyip. If you are a MAC user, then use Terminal.

2. Rewrite the URL

This trick works for a few websites, and it may not work for many websites. People primarily use this trick to access blocked websites that host in a VPS or Dedicated Server Environment and have an unverified SSL installed for that domain name. To access these sites, all you need to do is follow these steps:

  • Go to the address bar of your browser.
  • Instead of typing www.websiteURL.com or http://www.WebsiteURL.com, try typing https://www.WebsiteURL.com.

If the domain has an unverified SSL installed, it will show you a pop-up security notice if you visit an unverified/untrusted site. Choose the option “Proceed Anyway” (Chrome users) or add an exception certificate in Firefox to proceed to the website.

3. Change the DNS Server

Your DNS is the server that contains all the information about all the websites from the entire World. If any country blocks any website for their country’s IPs, they plug it into their DNS server. So, people who are using their server DNS will not be able to access the blocked sites. This generally happens in MNC companies. For this, if you use Google DNS or OpenDNS, you can access blocked websites easily. This trick generally works very well, at least in our experience! These steps are as follows:

Steps For Windows 7,8,8.1, Vista Users

  • For Windows Vista and 7, click Start > Control Panel > Network and Internet > Network and Sharing Center. If you’re using Windows 8, hit Windows key + C > click Search on the right-hand side > type Control Panel in the search bar > select Control Panel > Network and Internet > Network and Sharing Center.
  • Click Change Adapter Settings, which are on the left sidebar.
  • Right-click the Internet connection (MTNL, Airtel, BSNL, etc.) on which you’re having trouble accessing websites, and click Properties.
  • Select Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IP), and then click Properties.
  • Click the radio button next to Use the following DNS Server address. If you want to use Google DNS, enter as the Preferred DNS Server and as the Alternate DNS Server. If you want to use OpenDNS, use and, respectively. After entering these, click OK.

Steps For Windows XP users

  • Click Start > Control Panel > Network Connections.
  • Now select your specific Internet connection with access problems, right-click, then select Properties.
  • Left-click Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and select Properties.

  • Long press the Wi-Fi network you’re connected to > tap Modify Network.
  • Now tap the box next to Show advanced options. Scroll down.
  • Tap DHCP > select Static IP > scroll down and modify DNS 1 and DNS 2 (as explained in step 5 above).
  • Click the radio button next to Use the following DNS Server address. If you want to use Google DNS, enter as the Preferred DNS Server and as the Alternate DNS Server. If you want to use OpenDNS, use and, respectively. After entering these, click OK.

4. Convert to Short URL

This trick works in rare cases. If the original URL is banned, convert the original URL to a short URL using online tools. It might just help you to bypass the settings. There are different short URL services like google, bit.ly, etc.

There’s not a great chance that this will work, but it’s been known to happen and it’s worth a shot. If this method works for any of you, let us know in the comments.

5. Proxy Tricks

Proxies are the services that let you use their internet connection, and they bypass almost all the blocks or restrictions by the internet service providers. You can get hundreds of sites out there that distribute free proxies in any country. Few of them don’t know how to use proxies.

The most popular proxy service websites are hidemyass, kproxy, etc. You have to copy the site URL and paste it into any proxy website, then choose your proxy location and visit the site. This is a straightforward and simple method where you can get access to blocked sites online quickly.

6. Cached Versions of Site

When the site is not live online, or if you are not able to access that site. Google shows an option like Cache version or cached. By clicking on Cached, you can access the place blocked or which is not live online. But, the site cannot show the latest articles through the cached version. Only a few of the pieces are available through this method.

So, only use this method if you’re only trying to gain limited access to a certain blocked website. Sometimes, a few pieces of content are much better than none!

7. VPN Trick

For complete anonymity on the Web and to be able to access all websites blocked in your country, a virtual private network (VPN) is the best solution. VPNs can do many things, including protecting your browsing data, spoofing your location, and best of all, accessing content normally unavailable to you in your location.

The best VPNs are not free. If you need privacy or want to avoid proxy websites, you can try Private Internet Access at $7 (Rs. 420) per month or TorGuard at $10 (Rs. 600) per month.

You can browse websites in complete privacy without a fee. There are different types of VPN free trials and money-back guarantees. Using a free VPN for streaming, like vpn.troywell.org can improve speed and performance.
The above-mentioned free web proxy sites also provide VPNs. You can also take a look at their pricing.

Another great option for VPN services is IPVanish, which has a zero-log policy and ensures that you’ll be protected at all costs while browsing.

8. Internet Archive – Way Back Machine

This is a commonly used tool by every blogger. Suppose their site had a problem and lost data all of a sudden. In those cases, this tool is to get the data from their site. We cannot get the total data present on the site, but we can get some.

Basically, there is always a downloadable version of most content that goes on the internet. If you use this tool, you can access this downloadable content, but anything not backed up into the file will be inaccessible. That’s why not all of the content you may want will show up when you use this method.

9.  Retrieve Web Pages Via Email

A simple way to get the blocked site data is via email to your inbox. Web2Mail is a free service that sends websites you want to read right into your inbox. All you need to do is send an email to [email protected] with the URL as the subject title. We’d recommend this method highly.

This service has helped us access blocked websites and their content—it’s so easy because it’s indirect, and all legal.

10. Google Translate

As we all know, Google translate is a tool for translating text from one language to another. So, here we have one small trick to access blocked sites. Before entering the URL of your chosen location, choose the page language as any language except English, and translate it into English. If you do this, the blocked site will be visible in English.

11. Additional Proxy Layer

The last method is an additional proxy layer. Sometimes, these methods may not work if your ISP is very smart. If that is the scenario, then we have another trick to access blocked sites. Before using this trick, I would like to warn you that as you will use Proxy IPs, do not provide sensitive information over the proxy filed line and if you do, do it at your own risk.

Now let’s get started. Many sites provide Proxy IP and Port List for free of cost, like HideMyAss Proxy List. Visit any of these sites and grab one Proxy IP: Port combination with good speed and fast connection type.

After you get one Proxy IP: Port combination, use the following procedure to add it in popular browsers like Google Chrome & Firefox.

For Google Chrome users

  • Go to settings and click on Show Advanced Settings.
  • Under the Network, click on the Change Proxy Settings button.
  • When the popup comes, click on the button called LAN Settings.
  • On the next popup window, check on “Use proxy server for your LAN. “
  • Also, mark the “Bypass proxy server for local address. “
  • Hit OK and save. That’s all! You are good to go.

For Firefox users

  • Go to Options.
  • Click on Advanced with a gearbox sign from the top navigation section of the popup window.
  • Select the Network tab from the sub-navigation
  • Under the Connections, select the Settings button.
  • On the next popup window, select the radio button saying “Manual Proxy Configuration. “
  • Put your Proxy IP: Port in the HTTP Proxy section.
  • Check the “Use this proxy server for all protocol. “
  • Hit OK and save.
