Apple officially introduced iOS 11 during its keynote on June 5, 2017, and among the novelties it shared, could not leave out Apple CarPlay.

One of the most representative improvements is the arrival of a new function called “Do not disturb while driving”, which will dismiss messages that are not important so that they do not bother us while you are driving your car.

How iOS 11 Prevents us from Typing & Talking on Phone While Driving

This new feature was designed to block incoming calls, texting, and notifications while driving in the car, all to prevent accidents and make us concentrate more on the steering wheel.

It is important to keep in mind that this function also allows us to create an automatic response to the contacts that send us messages while this mode is active, informing them that we are driving and that at the moment we are not available to respond to messages or calls.

In addition, iOS 11 allows us to configure ‘Do not disturb while driving’ so that it automatically turns on when we connect the iPhone to the car, either via Bluetooth or manually.

In this way, from the moment the iPhone detects that you are speeding up, the Do Not Disturb while driving function will be activated and calls, notifications, and texts will be silenced, while the iPhone screen will remain dark.

If you have just installed the new iOS operating system iOS 11 and want to enable ‘Do not disturb while driving’ mode, then follow the steps below.

Steps to Enable ‘Do not disturb mode while driving’

  • Enter into your iPhone settings
  • Press the ‘Do Not Disturb’
  • Go to the ‘Do not disturb while driving’ section.
  • Press Activate
  • Choose the activation method (automatic, Bluetooth, manual).

Finally, here are the steps you should follow if you would like to customize the message your contacts receive when they send you messages and you are driving:

  • Enter again to the ‘Do not disturb while driving’ option
  • Press ‘Auto Answer’.
  • Tap on the text box and change it for the message you want.

It is important to note that ‘Do not disturb while driving’ has an interesting option that identifies the time when a person really needs to communicate with us. By sending the word ‘Urgent’ iOS will trigger a notification on your device, which will make us understand that someone really needs to talk to us.
