In the creation of any web content, there are always several aspects to take into account to optimize your positioning. In the construction of articles or blog posts, one of the most important things to position it well is the number of links that are included in it.
When I refer to links, these can be both internal links, that is, those that redirected to another page within your website, as well as external links ones, which leads the visitor to the content related article.
But, although it seems a simple task, it is not about placing links to place, right? This task should be done with attention and considering the best practices about link building.
To learn more about the number of links you must include when building your articles, be sure to read this post. We will explain its importance and how to do it in the best way.
Why use links within the text of an article?
Imagine for a moment that you are reading a book of a new and interesting topic for you, and suddenly, you come across a word that you did not know, and you have no idea about its meaning or the context of it there.
Some years ago, the normal thing was to look up its meaning in a dictionary and thus solve the doubt. Today, in a matter of seconds, with a Google search you reach that meaning through texts, photos, videos, etc.
The links within an article have this same function: offer the reader or visitor of your website, more related content about what you are learning or what you need to find.
Then, the use of links is a practice that will give relevance to the content you publish, because finally you are not only offering information but also providing alternatives to learn more.
What is the difference between internal and external links?
These links can be external or internal. Next, I explain what each of them consists of.
This is an SEO practice that brings benefits (yes, I just used an internal link). Basically, it is about taking the visitor or reader to a related and relevant content about the treated topic that is inside your website. Hence the importance of generating constant and varied content within your blog.
The main advantages of using this type of link are:
- The visitor will stay within your website for more time, explore content and, why not, make some conversion.
- Google will crawl these pages more easily since they are indexed within the same website.
This is another fundamental practice within SEO (that was an external link). What it does is take the visitor to content related to your text, but it will be inside another website. This practice also has its benefits:
- Authority is transferred from one site to another.
- Connections are created with these companies or websites to subsequently carry out guest posting campaigns.
You must be careful when placing these links. Ideally, these should be opened in a new tab, otherwise, the visitor will leave your website and with this, you will open the possibility of not returning.
Where should you put the links?
Well, for this there is no secret recipe that can reveal you here and guarantee that, in this way, you will achieve an excellent positioning of links that help your SEO.
This will depend a lot on the structure of your text, the sequence you give to the story or the storytelling you are working on.
Remember that the links can also be placed on the images and in this way, make the content more interactive. They can also be a direct multimedia content that complements your visitor’s experience.
As I mentioned before, when placing external links it is essential to validate the content, which is relevant and current, as you will be recommending this information and the relevance of your text will be implied.
Ideally, there should not be more than two links in a paragraph, so they will not take away from each other the opportunity to be seen.
And finally, how many links should you put in an article to position well?
As I mentioned in the previous point, there is no special recipe, this will depend on the number of words and also the topic you are developing. For example, a text that is based on research data will have more links precisely to support this data, and thus give credibility to the article.
On the other hand, if it is a text in which you are going to develop your own theme, you can include fewer links, but remember that giving references to your information will not only provide a good experience for the visitor but will also help to a position.
It is not about exaggerating or falling short by placing links, but rather to make your text relevant and gain positioning. So quality over quantity is important.
The handling of links, both internal and external, requires aspects to be taken into account that can make the text gain relevance and positions in search engines such as Google. This is just one of all the SEO strategies you can do to win the first place.
