Sharing photos with family and friends is something that can be done in multiple ways. Now, if you prefer not to do it through a social network and you want to deliver them directly to certain people, there is a way to do it. Let’s see in this tutorial how to share a photo album with iCloud from the iPhone, iPad or Mac.

Advantages of iCloud shared photo albums

Photos are an important part of our lives. Sharing them with those who matter most to us is much easier with this function of the Photos app. For me, one of its main advantages is that they are shared privately among users without having to resort to social networks such as Facebook, Instagram, Telegram or WhatsApp. In the latter two, it is more closed, but the photos end up being lost in group conversations.

With shared iCloud albums, the important thing is the photos. All invited users can add or delete theirs (the creator of the album can delete them all), making it perfect for trips or family events. So everyone has the same photos without having to be sending them by message or email, losing quality along the way.

There is a small social component in the shared photos of iCloud. You can like individual photos and write comments on them. There is also an activity section where the news of all your shared albums is displayed.

For functions like this, Photos is my favourite Apple app. It has lots of features like the advanced search engine that recognizes objects, the people albums or the hiding of photos of the reel that are very useful to organize and find your best photos.

Create a shared album from iCloud

Creating a shared photo album using iCloud is an option that is not visible to the naked eye. On the iPhone or iPad, you will have to follow these steps:

  • Open the photos app and go to the Albums section.
  • Once there, look for the section of shared albums.
  • Give edit and the “+” symbol to add a new one.
  • Here you can create a new shared album, giving it the name you want.
  • In the next step, you can invite the people with whom you want to share the photos.

On a Mac, the process of creating an album of shared photos in iCloud is very similar:

  • In the sidebar you will see a section called Shared.
  • Click on the “+” button and complete the fields in a similar way to how it is done in iOS.

Keep in mind that to use a shared photo album with iCloud, guests must have an Apple computer or at least an iCloud account. These users will receive a photo notification with the invitation, which they can accept or decline.

With the album created, you can add all the photos you want from the “+” symbol that you will see inside. By doing so, they will be uploaded to the iCloud album and reach all users. Undoubtedly, this is the best way to share photos among Apple users comfortably and without loss of quality.
